may baby of the month

We had been struggling with my severe, stage 4 endometriosis for close to eight years when we came across Brown Fertility. Up until then, I had endured six surgeries to remove endometriosis tissue from my abdominal organs, and multiple fertility treatments including drugs, IUI, and even IVF that, sadly, ended in a miscarriage of my baby girl.

At the time we learned of Brown Fertility, I had long since let go of the idea of having my own child and had set my mind on adoption. I was relieved to know I would not have to go through the pain of trying to have a baby any longer.

Instead, my husband came home to announce that he had learned of Brown Fertility and wanted to attend their upcoming seminar. I was not interested in the least.

But my husband said, “If you will go to the seminar, and hear what they have to say. If you don’t like what you hear, then I will never bring up IVF again. I promise. It’s completely up to you. Just go with me.”

In the days leading up to the seminar, I learned that they planned to give away a free round of IVF to one lucky winner. I cannot explain just how much turmoil I felt in my heart as I prayed the following prayer:

“Heavenly Father, you know I do not want to do this. But if this is what You want, then You will see me through this and give me a healthy child. If and only if that child will grow to love you, then let me win the free round of IVF. If you do not do it, then I will not go forward.”

A couple of weeks later I found myself sitting at a table at the seminar as Dr. Cabrera gave the presentation. My husband was fully attentive, turning his chair toward the front, hanging on to every word, graph and statistic that was presented.

All I could hear was unwanted, all too familiar terminology that brought up painful memories. Finally, the presentation ended.

Then, someone took the microphone and announced that it was time to have the drawing. “Just be happy for the winner, Ashley,” I told myself, “God has other things for you.”

And then, I heard my name. I had actually won the free round of IVF! It was such a surreal moment.

Over the next 10 months, the staff at Brown Fertility walked me through some very challenging days. We had my severe endometriosis to address, my blocked fallopian tubes, my high blood pressure, and my extremely fragile emotional state. Seriously, I had more break downs at my visits than not, and they handled it so well!

It was a hard road. I had to have another surgery before they could do the embryo transfer, and even that surgery was unsuccessful due to the extent of my endometriosis. We went forward anyway.

On Wednesday, October 26th, we got the call that the test had come back positive. I was pregnant! We were ecstatic!

And on June 18, 2017, our little miracle was born. We named him Adam Nikhil. Adam as a reminder that, regardless of methods used, he is God’s creation. Nikhil after my husband, which means “complete.” He has completed our family!

My years of sorrow have ended. God has blessed me, and He used Brown Fertility to do it!
