Brown Fertility Releases National Study on Fertility Perceptions and Family Planning
Data reveals knowledge gaps in reproductive health and what it means for patients & providers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 25, 2025) — Brown Fertility, one of the nation’s leading fertility centers and a 2025 recipient of Newsweek’s America’s Best Fertility Clinics awards, today released findings from its Understanding Fertility Perceptions in the U.S. national study. The report offers insights into how Americans understand fertility timelines, approach family planning and engage with fertility-related support services.
Conducted between Feb. 10 and March 3, 2025, the survey gathered responses from more than 500 individuals across five major metro areas — Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City — representing a range of ages, marital statuses and childbearing backgrounds. The survey revealed key findings that shape fertility perceptions and influence family planning decisions, including:
- On average, respondents believed fertility begins to decline at age 34, four years later than the established benchmark of age 30 (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists).
- 64% of respondents worry that fertility services are too costly.
- 51% of mothers reported they would consider egg freezing.
- Conversations about family planning with traditional providers and OB-GYNs are lacking or limited.
- Majority of respondents were unaware if their state requires insurance coverage for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and fertility preservation, both of which can help improve access to family planning options.
- There is a need for clearer, more accessible information to support confident decision-making around fertility, reproductive health and family planning.
“As conversations around reproductive health become more openly discussed, misconceptions exist that can leave people feeling unsure or unprepared for the steps they may need to take,” said Dr. Samuel Brown, founder and medical director of Brown Fertility. “This study helped establish where knowledge gaps lie and serves as a reminder of the role we play as providers. We must ensure our patients feel informed, supported and confident in their decisions. When we begin these conversations earlier and more often, we strengthen our ability to be trusted partners in one of life’s most personal journeys.”
