Safeguarding Fertility

Whether a patient defers parenthood by choice or due to fertility being at risk, there are fertility options available to meet every patient’s needs.

Female patients have the option of either freezing their eggs through Oocyte Cryopreservation or freezing embryos (fertilized eggs). Eggs are retrieved from the ovary and either frozen, or fertilized and then frozen. As of 2012, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine has declared that egg freezing is no longer experimental and have announced that egg freezing is now an acceptable fertility treatment. Due to scientific advancements such as Vitrification (extremely rapid freezing of oocytes and embryos), pregnancy rates as well as the health of delivered babies have proven oocyte cryopreservation to be a safe and viable option.

Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and some surgeries may cause irreversible damage to reproductive health.  Through our partnership with the non-profit organization Livestrong, we are able to offer reduced cost fertility preservation treatments.

Safeguarding

Brown Fertility uses great measure to ensure the safety and security of human tissue. Our accredited laboratory is subject to both regular and surprise inspections by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Our cryopreservation tanks are closely monitored by our embryology team and are regularly inspected to be ensure liquid nitrogen levels are correct.  Our facility is equipped with a generator that supplies electricity to the lab in the event there is a power outage and an alert is sent to the Brown Fertility team if anything out of the ordinary occurs.

Brown Fertility was featured on CBS where Dr. Lori Hollins discussed the processes and procedures we have in place to ensure that every patient’s embryos are safe, you can watch it here.

At Brown Fertility, our team is committed to utilizing these best fertility options and practices to create the opportunity for parenthood in years to come.
